Some Sunday Blooms

My Surprise Lilies are in Bloom!

I am tickled pink to say that my Surprise Lily AKA Naked Ladies, Magic Lily, Resurrection Lily (Lycoris squamigera) are blooming, they were up about a foot last April when we got the long spell of freezing temps, I was worried that they may not bloom. They are one of favorite plants, also one of my oldest plants.

Clematis and Roses

Last May I purchased a Clematis and interplanted it with my rose bush Linda Campbell, I had read that they made good campanions, I really sort of forgot about it and did not expect the Clematis to bloom this year, but look what I discovered this week! Now I am hoping for lots of blooms from the clematis next spring, it is indeed clinging to and climbing the rose canes.

Brugmansia Revisited

I so happy to see my Brug blooming I had to share more pictures! The flowers were fully open yesterday and today. They are so awesome.

Nice Juicy Tomatoes

Our tomatoes are starting to ripen, I can not take any credit for them except taking the photos and canning them. My hubby takes care of all the veggies, years ago I used to but have not for several years. Nothing tastes better than a vine rippened tomato!

Brugmansia

The Brugmansia is finally blooming! This is the earliest they have bloomed for me, usually they bloom right before our first frost. I have two other plants that are not even showing a bud yet.

We received another 8 tenths of an inch of rain last night. The drought is over.

Dewy Roses

My roses are starting to bloom again, these two were covered with a heavy dew this AM. The second one is Double Delight, my most favorite rose.

Blue Skies of Iowa

No color to me is prettier than a summer blue sky.

Do You Think We Needed Rain?

Last week someone made the comment that my flowers looked good for not having rain. I mentioned that I water the flowers, my hubby waters the veggies and no one waters the lawn. This picture of our grass was taken last Sunday afternoon before the 5 inches of rain we received this week. It is already starting to green up.

Special Effects Zinna

I was playing around in Paint Shop Pro again tonight.

Phlox

My Phlox are in an area of the yard that was difficult to water during the dry spell so they sure could look better than they do. We received over two inches of rain last night, so the total is over 5 inches since Monday evening. Things look much better. We even have the air turned off this evening, it is so nice to have fresh air in the house but thank heavens for the air when it is needed.

After the rain this is the time of year that the surprise lilies or naked ladies (Lycoris squamigera), should spring to life, but with that terrible cold spell we had in April after they were up out of the ground and frozen off. I wonder if they will bloom?

Datura Bloom

This is a datura bloom in various stages. I don't really like this paticular one because once the bud opens completely up it has a tendecy to fall over from the weight of the bloom.

Zinnia Collage, Finally Rain

We got rain!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah! You could almost hear the flowers, veggies, shrubs, lawn breathe a sign of relief. It rained and rained and then rained some more. The total was 3 inches, with more in the forecast tonight and tomorrow. I did not have to water one thing tonight, that was a nice break.

July 15th, 2002

Today marks 5 years since I lost my best friend..................Jessi Belle will live forever in my heart. She had Cushings Disease, we tried really hard to save her but it was not meant to be. She would have been 10 years old the following February. She was my shadow, I still miss her, she was a special dog.

Few More Blooms for Garden Bloom Day

July 15th Garden Bloom Day

We need rain badly! I am being kept busy just watering, my hubby is busy watering all the veggies.

I took most of these photos this AM after coming back from walking the dogs. My roses are kind of at a stand still right now, mostly buds, after the first flash of blooms, my pot plants are all doing well. This past spring my husband built me a raised herb bed, I call it my "garden for the senses", we enjoy walking by and brushing the leaves to release the various aromas, I am going to do a post on it one day soon.
