A Fun Day at Reimans

We awoke this AM to yet another cloudy, dreary, foggy day! We have received over 3 inches of rain in the past 24 hours, so things are soggy and wet. We decided to go to Reimans to see the butterflies, it was an enjoyable day. We stopped on the way home in Eldora, IA at a large tropical fish store and bought a few new fish.

Reiman's Butterfly House

We went to Reiman Gardens and Butterfly House last August, I did not get to post many pictures because I was too busy posting my own flower pics so I thought this would be a good time to post the butterflies. They had to close the butterfly house down until April 1st this year because of lack of funding, what a disappointment that is to me. I wanted to get there last month for my birthday but that did not happen, they always have such a beautiful Christmas display in the conservatory as well as the lights in the outside gardens. I love going to Reiman! Last year we went in Febuary, what a treat that was to have the weather below freezing and be in the tropics with butterflies flying around.

They always have the most beautiful floral arrangements on display and this time was not a disappointment! Hydrangeas are a favorite of mine, I need to count my favorites some time, I bet it is a long long list. There were several beautiful succulent balls.

Reiman Gardens Butterfly House

Visiting Reiman Gardens in the middle of an Iowa winter is a wonderful way to spend the day. The gardens are awesome in the summer without a doubt but visiting the Butterfly House on a day when the temperature is only 0 or so is exhilaring! The Butterfly House is warm and toasty and full of tropical plants and butterflys of course, it is a great place to take pictures as well. There is also a wonderful conservatory that always has a gorgeous display. These pictures were taken in December, I can not wait to visit again soon, the flower display has been changed in the conservatory and I am sure there are new butterflys to see and photograph. If you have the chance to visit Reiman Gardens, do not hesitate it is well worth it. It is located on the grounds of Iowa State University. The money for it was donated by the Reimans, anyone who regulary reads their magazines has probably heard of it, they published (the company is now owned by Reader's Digest) Birds and Blooms, Country, Country Woman, Taste of Home, and other magazines, all of which are great reading.
