Camera Critter Saturday Monarch Caterpillars

Posted by Picasa

These photos were obviously taken earlier this past summer.   There were dozens of monarch caterpillars on my milkweed this year.   We had our 1st snow last night,  just a dusting, originally the weatherman called for much more, he strikes out again :).   I am watching about a dozen cardinals at my feeder but it is just barely light so I cannot take a picture, they feed in groups in early morning and late evening.

Wonderful photos, it must have been awesome to see so many caterpillars in your yard.

I watch the milkweed for nibbles so I can get a shot on these. I am enjoying the cardinals myself. When I refill my feeders the birds are all coming by. I saw 14 bald eagles yesterday in one area so they are coming in for the winter.

Great photos! Will you be able to get a photo of the butterflies when they hatch?

I was lucky enough to witness the migration of the Monarch. There were 1000s of these beautiful creatures flying, resting, eating, and pollenating. It was one of the most amazing sights I had seen. Hope to catch it next year too!

I enjoyed seeing your caterpillars. The only critters I've seen around here are squirrels, and only when I don't have my camera out. I don't know if I have any photos from summer that I didn't post on already, as I tend to put up a bunch at a time.

We haven't had much snow yet. It's cold now, so I'm ready to be snowed in for a few days.

We didn't get many caterpillars here but my daughter and granddaughters "hatched" about 10 monarchs this fall.

I always have at least two families of cardinals at my feeders during the day, but never that many!

Love the monarch caterpillar! I love summer for the beauty, but not the humidity so I miss the beauty when it's white outside.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I use a combination of an older Kodak camera and a Nikon D5000.
I love butterflies and wish I could attract more to my backyard. I have never seen a monarch caterpillar in my garden but hope someday I will.
There are many blue jays that visit my feeder, but only one pair of cardinals. It must be wonderful to have so many cardinals visit your garden.

I love how it has "antennae" on both the front and back- perfect confusion for predators!
