Amaryllis

Each winter I usually buy an amaryllis because they add a nice splash of color during a time when things are mostly white. I do not try to save them from year to year, having tried it several times without any luck, I just toss the bulb when it is done blooming, in fact this one is already gone but it sure was a pretty one.
We missed the ice storm this week but yesterday, we had a thunderstorm complete with thunder, lightning and darkened skies, and a bit of hail tossed in for good measure.

What a totally gorgeous flower!!!! I am definitely going to buy some next year so I can see this during the cold, drab winter in my house, too!!

OMG! That is gorgeous!!

We did too - thunder and lightning I mean. And the power went out twice! And then it all turned to ice. Which is still here. It's got to get a little warmer than 17 to start melting.... ugh.

Hi IGW,
I see you didn't escape the fun weather the other day! We had torrential rain, hail and thunderstorms that even flooded our street!

Your amaryllis is fantastic ... we had one of those several years ago. We have had really good luck bringing them back from year to year, though ours are still in the basement! We should bring them up and get them going again... what we do is let them summer outside in a shady area, then quit watering toward fall, let them die back and store (dark and cool place) for at least 3-4 months. You could give that a shot!
