Linden Trees

This is one of my favorite trees, Linden or Basswood. It blooms every year during the first hot and humid spell we have in July, usually around the 4th. The blooms smell wonderful which of course is one reason I love the tree.

Roses Roses Roses

My roses are doing quite well without my usual tender care, with the flood having taken over our lives my flowers seem to be doing fine on their own, of course we have had regular rains which they like but the roses have not gotten their regular doses of fertilizer.

Roses and Clematis

Last summer I planted a clematis vine at the base of a Linda Campbell shrub rose, it has been wonderfully successful! The Clematis has vined all over the rose, it is beautiful. I planted a white clematis at the base of a pink shrub rose this summer.

Lots of Seeds

I have been meaning to write this post for well over a month now and just have not gotten around to it with the flood having taken over my life. Did anyone notice that the trees produced lots and lots of seeds this year? The maple trees had so many seeds that they crunched under my feet and you could barely see the grass when they started falling, and the nasty chinese elms really outdid themselves this year, also the cottonwoods are still throwing out seeds, notice the cottonwood seeds caught on this columbine? Wonder what that means, I am sure there is some significance of some sort.

Catfish Spawn........Baby Catfish Galore

We needed a break from the flood repair work yesterday so we decided to go out fishing for a bit, we didn't really expect to catch anything, with the flooding and the weather we have been having, to say it has not been a good fishing year would be an understatement. But it is always nice to get out on the water with coffee and rolls. I am very glad that we went as we saw something neither of us had ever seen before. A catfish spawn! There were literally thousands of little catfish, the water was covered with large schools of tiny little catfish! We watched this phenomenon for over an hour, it was fascinating.
