Camera Critter Saturday-Locust

Posted by Picasa

The locust have been very loud this year.  Probably complaining about all the rain like the rest of us.  We have had another 6 inches since Weds AM, lots of flooding in northern Iowa.

There is an 'old wives' tale' that I learned when we lived in the deserts of Arizona that when the locusts are really noisy, you're gonna have a lot of rain in the future. It panned out to be true in Arizona...but is it the same all over the country you wonder.

Excellent photos!! Excellent.

I don't know why but locusts have always given me the shivers...great captures because, even at the computer, I'm shivering!

At 65, I've done it! My poetry book - Life's Journey by Carmen Henesy - is out on Amazon!

I can't decide if it's beautiful or scary looking - ha! It's a fabulous capture, that's for sure.

Look at that lovely guy or gal! I love the green on it.

Guess what? I found a question mark butterfly at our university. Isn't learning new things fun?

WoW! What a handsome fella! Heheheee
But I wouldn't wanna run into him in a dark alley... or anywhere else for that matter! I went outside a while ago to get some moon shots & the skeeters almost carried me away, so lucky their not as big as the locust are or they might have done just that!

Wow, fantastic shot, when we're kids we use to catch that in our school playground, don't you know that in some province in the Phils. they stir fry and eat that? the brown color one only..

Sue, gald you saw the question mark butterfly also, and glad someone identified it for us. I have only seen it the one day I took the photos.

I'm not at all sure about eating one :), to each his own I guess.

I've seen the dead locusts, but never a live one. They really are huge!

I posted one a few weeks ago and called it a big fly. LOL...I was corrected about it.
