Composting and Eggplant

Posted by Picasa

This is my husband's compost bin, it has been taken over by volunteer potatoes and vines, I think it is a cucumber.  I planted eggplant for the 1st time this year, it is doing quite well.

Volunteers grow where they want to grow and are usually quite happy. ;)

I think volunteers are so fun! Your eggplant looks like it's doing great.

eggplant is just such a great color - nothing you'd think of when you hear 'eggplant'. :)

The leaves on that vine look larger than cucumbers to me, but it's hard to tell. It sure looks happy there! Your eggplants are beautiful! I grow eggplant some summers, but don't remember having that many growing at once. Awesome!

I always find potatoes growing in my compost bin. Beautiful eggplant. The vegetable and the color.

Nature is always surprising us growing where one wouldn't think and then not growing where we want...... Good luck on the eggplant hopefully a big crop .

I forgot to mention that I planted sweet potatoes in one of my unfinished compost piles. They are doing better than the ones in pots. Their stems are thicker than I've ever seen in sweet potatoes.

Whatever kind of vine it is, it looks very happy. And, your eggplants are lovely, and very healthy looking.

We have had trouble growing the garden this year due to cold wet weather and slugs. But it is worth the effort. I have never grown eggplants but I should try them. They are beautiful and I love to eat them too.
