The lilacs are all in bloom and it smells wonderful. I can tell the air is more humid this evening because the scent is even stronger.

IGW, I'm envious you have the space for lilacs! I just love them (esp. the purple French varieties) and there's little that compares with the lilac fragrance, except maybe one of my others ... Peonies! I think our peonies are going to miss their 'regular Memorial Day' bloom date this year, and will come along a week or so later ... I'll wait. Not that I'm necessarily patient, but just because I'll have to!
lilac is amazing. the fragrance is unforgettable. the scent was a big part of growing up for me... i can still remember how sweet the air was in my parents' backyard where they had a long hedge of lilac. my mother would cut bouquets of blooms and then the house would smell great too. I have room for just one lilac in my garden but it's a good one: Ludwig Spaeth...deep, deep purple and very fragrant.
i've seen sweet woodruff planted in large drifts. very nice.

Beautiful lilacs! Here's a funny story: When we moved to this location 5 years ago, there was sweet woodruff in the raised bed gardens. I didn't know what it was... thought it might be broomstraw... so I pulled it out! oops! Now I've learned my lesson and planted more in a front bed. It's looking Very healthy and I Really like it! ;-)
Shady, when I started gardening I pulled Oriental Poppies every spring, I thought they were thistles, then I missed a "thistle" one year and discovered they were OP, this went on for 3 years.
