Wild elderberries grow in abundance all over the place here. They make good jelly, and also homemade wine, or so I've heard. I've made the jelly, but not the wine. ;o)

Does your black lace variety bear edible fruit? I know the birds and other wildlife enjoy the wild fruit here that isn't gathered to make jelly.

Candy is a sweetie to me, but not so much to other people. She's gotten pretty contrary in her old age. :o)

I have been hoping for blooms and fruit but none have shown up so far, this will be the 3rd year so I have my hopes up for this season.

Thanks for stopping by.

Good morning Iowa: I like your flower photos.

I have considered buying one of those for several years. I like the foliage and since they grow wild here I'm sure the black variety would do well. Thanks for the photo.

Thanks Jenny. But, ummm...do you have a pic of the *whole* bush. I like the looks of the leaves, though. I'm thinking (but I'm not sure) that this isn't the same shrub as the wild eldeberries that grow in the road ditches all over Iowa. Which (Diane) I HAVE made wine from. Let's just say it's a little "bitter". LOL

Sally, it is not the wild variety, and really looks nothing like the wild one, it is a low growing shrub........will look for another pic.

Did you figure out the facebook thing? Still not sure how that works.
