Lantanas

I have grown Lantana every year for the past few years, it is supposed to attract butterflies but I have yet to see a butterfly on any of the blooms. But I still enjoy the plants. I wish I had the room to winter them over but I don't.
TGIF! I logged 55 hours this week and I am tired of working.

I saw a black swallowtail feeding on a yellow lantana in a pot one day. The ones I have in the ground, I've only seen butterflies stop for a brief moment, then go on to the tall purple verbenas, white marigolds, butterfly bush, and now asters and goldenrods. I wonder if more of the butterflies in the south go for the lantanas, since they are perennials in those zones.

I need to correct myself! I saw a Monarch, a Sulfur, and a Painted Lady on my orange lantana today. I'm planning to check again tomorrow to see what I can see. Maybe I should bring my yellow potted one to the front yard where most of the butterflies are, and see if it gets any visitors.

IGW,
We didn't plant Lantana this year, though we usually pick up a few and just love the stuff. I just wish they were hardy here ... when I've visited (for work, alas) Arizona, I was amazed at how big they get there, virtual shrubs! I'm envious they're hardy there, but I'm sticking with Iowa for good, after having moved around all over the place over the years.

I hope your work lets up a bit soon, but I understand... I've not been able to post as much as I wanted for the last month or so due to my crazy-busy workload too! Hang in there!

I saw lots of Lantana on a recent trip to Portugal. I do love their citrus colours. A lovely plant. x
