A Few Blooms Sunday Oct 5, 2008

Well, going to see the Amish stores was a bust, they are buying their merchandise in China the same as all the other stores. But we did visit a store that sold bulk goods, baking goods, and candy mostly that was fun. Bought a few things there. There was a General Store that had lots of Amish fabric, I bought 3 yards. It was a nice day for a drive. I came home and planted bulbs and started cleaning up for the winter.

Tuesday Tuesday

What a change a day can bring in Iowa, yesterday was in the high 80s and hot hot hot! Today the winds are from the north and it is 57 degrees. While walking around my yard tonight I discovered a nest with 3 baby birds that has fallen to the ground, no doubt from the wind yesterday. My husband says they are robins. Poor babys, they could not have been more than a couple of days old.

Right now I have some pretty little pink dianthus in bloom, they often winter over for me, I always buy a few new ones and plant in with the ones that survived the winter. My Korean Lilac is its usual showy self this year and the Clematis are starting their show.

See the lime green flower pot with a sweet potato vine in it? I was given this pot with some fresh flowers in it as a gift, it is not really to my taste but I decided I should do something with it, I think the pot and the sweet potato vine are a perfect combination, what do you think?

Roses & Clematis

I have a nice healthy shrub rose bush Linda Campbell, I have read several articles about inter planting a Clematis vine at the base of a large rose bush so I decided to give it a try. Linda Campbell has a dark red bloom, I wanted to find a white clematis but in my Saturday AM trip to buy plants I could not find a white clematis at any of our local shops so I got a very pale lavender clematis to use. It was so windy this weekend I didn't plant it but did today after I got home from work, the ground was nice and moist from the inch of rain we received yesterday. This was Linda in her glory last summer.
